Criminal Investigation Bureau
Lieutenant Colonel Kenny L. Brown, Bureau Chief
The Criminal Investigation Bureau (CIB) investigates violent crimes, drug offenses, and other major criminal activities throughout Maryland. Collaborating with local, state, and federal law enforcement, the CIB provides cross-jurisdictional resources and specialized teams to support local police and disrupt organized and violent crime.
Reducing violent crime is a top priority for the Maryland State Police. To do this, they focus on crimes that cross county and state lines, since criminals often move between areas to avoid detection.
With statewide authority, the Maryland State Police can work across these boundaries and provide extra support to local departments. The CIB uses a regional, statewide approach to track offenders, respond quickly, and break up criminal organizations that operate across jurisdictions.
