The Maryland Department of State Police (MDSP) provides criminal investigation reports, motor vehicle crash reports and other related documents maintained in the State’s central repository to legally entitled parties.
Motor vehicle accident reports
You can get an official copy of a motor vehicle accident report in three ways. Please note that you need to wait at least 10 days after the accident occurred to allow time for processing.

How to obtain accident reports
Request police records
- Go to the Maryland State Police Barrack where the report was made
- Bring a check or money order for $4 (no cash), made payable to Maryland State Police
- Call ahead to make sure the report is ready.
- Download and print the request a motor vehicle report form.
- Fill out the form and mail it with a check or money order for $4 (no cash), made payable to Maryland Department of State Police.
- Go in person to the Central Records Division located at 1711 Belmont Avenue, Baltimore, MD 21244 during office hours on Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. to - 4:30 p.m. (closed on state holidays)
- Bring a check or money order for $4 (no cash), made payable to Maryland Department of State Police, This is a non-refundable document search fee.
- Fill out the request a motor vehicle report form.
- Email your completed form to [email protected]
- You still need to mail the $4 check or money order along with your request for the motor vehicle accident report.

If you need an official copy of a MDSP Incident Report, you can request it from the Central Records Division. To make your request, send a written letter that includes:
- The MSP report number, if you have it
- The date and location of the incident
- The name(s) of the victim or suspect
- Your full return address so MSP can mail the report back
- There may be a fee for reproduction costs.
Requests are handled according to MDSP policy and the Maryland Public Information Act.
