File a Complaint Against the Maryland State Police

The Inte​rnal Affairs Division is committed to conducting timely and thorough investigations to provide pertinent information to our Department to allow for fair and just action. Investigators strive to provide transparent, unbiased information to the citizens and those traveling through Maryland. The Internal Affairs Division accomplishes this mission under the Oath of Office and core values of the Maryland State Police.​

The Internal Affairs Division (IAD) conducts timely, thorough, and unbiased investigations, providing transparent information to the Department, citizens, and travelers in Maryland. IAD operates under the Maryland State Police's Oath of Office and core values to ensure fair and just actions. The IAD is tasked with upholding the integrity of the MDSP and the trust of the citizens it serves. The IAD team is committed to ensuring the Department polices fairly and professionally without bias or prejudice. 

How to submit a complaint

  • To submit a formal complaint, use the IAD complaint form. All complaints regarding MDSP sworn and civilian employees may be submitted online, by telephone or in writing to the Internal Affairs Division.
    • You can make a complaint in person or by telephone to any MSP employee. The main IAD phone number is 410-653-4350.
  • Submit your form by email to the Maryland State Police Internal Affairs .
  • After you submit your complaint, you can check the status of your complaint
  • Your submission is assigned to an investigator who will review the complaint.
  • The investigator may contact you for follow-up. MDSP commits to fair, unbiased, and prompt reviews.

Note:

  • If you see or suspect immediate danger, or someone acting in a life-threatening way, call 911 or contact your local police rather than submitting a form.
  • Making false accusations can have legal consequences. It's a serious offense to file a complaint under oath if the information isn’t accurate.
