The Office of the Superintendent leads the Maryland State Police and helps ensure high-quality law enforcement services across the state. This office guides agency priorities, coordinates statewide operations, and oversees all Maryland State Police divisions and offices listed below.
Acting Superintendent
Maryland State Senator Michael A. Jackson was appointed the Acting Superintendent of the MDSP. Jackson will assume the post as acting superintendent beginning Nov. 12, following the retirement of Col. Roland L. Butler on November 1, 2025.
A lifelong public servant, Acting Superintendent Jackson served twenty-two years with the Prince George's County Sheriff's Office, including eight years as elected sheriff for Prince George's County and more than five years as Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #112 president.

The Maryland Legislative Security Section is responsible for the physical security of the General Assembly and its members, including the House of Delegates and the Senate. Their duties include protecting state legislators, the public, and the State House complex, which involves tasks like screening visitors, providing executive protection to key state officials, and responding to security incidents.

The Statewide Interoperability Office ensures that emergency response providers and relevant government officials can communicate as needed and authorized across different jurisdictions, disciplines, and levels of government. Effective and timely communication among public safety responders, and between these agencies and citizens, is crucial for saving lives in many situations.

The Maryland Office of the State Fire Marshal (OSFM) is responsible for protecting life and property from fire and explosion through investigations, fire code enforcement, and public education.
