A common name for the Maryland State Police application used to buy a regulated firearm.

Copycat Weapon

A firearm with any of the following characteristics:

  1. A semiautomatic centerfire rifle that can accept a detachable magazine and has any two of the following: a folding stock, a grenade launcher or flare launcher, or a flash suppressor.
  2. A semiautomatic centerfire rifle that has a fixed magazine with the capacity to accept more than 10 rounds.
  3. A semiautomatic centerfire rifle that has an overall length of less than 29 inches.
  4. A semiautomatic pistol with a fixed magazine that can accept more than 10 rounds.
  5. A semiautomatic shotgun that has a folding stock.
  6. A shotgun with a revolving cylinder.

Certified Qualified Handgun Instructor

A firearms instructor approved by the Maryland State Police and certified by a recognized training organization. They may teach required handgun training courses.

Curio and Relic

A firearm that is at least 50 years old and still in its original condition.

Federal Firearms License

A license from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives that allows a person or business to legally sell or transfer firearms.

Habitual Drunkard

A person convicted of three alcohol-related driving offenses, with at least one conviction in the past year.

Habitual User

A person convicted of two drug-related offenses, with at least one conviction in the past five years.

Handgun Qualification License

A Maryland license required to buy, rent, or receive a handgun, unless the person qualifies for an exemption.

LEOSA Permit

A permit issued to certain former Maryland State Police employees, including Maryland State Troopers and Maryland Deputy State Fire Marshals. It allows them to carry a concealed firearm in most places in the United States, with some exceptions.

Licensed Qualified Handgun Instructor

A firearms instructor licensed by the Maryland State Police to teach handgun training courses for license and permit applicants.

Regulated Firearm

Under Maryland law, this includes handguns and certain assault-style firearms or copies of those firearms.

Wear and Carry Permit

A permit issued by the Maryland State Police that allows a person to carry, wear, or transport a handgun. It may also be called a Handgun Permit or Concealed Carry Permit.
