The Motor Vehicle Division (MVD) manages all Maryland State Police vehicles. It purchases, maintains, repairs, and retires all fleet vehicles. Staff take delivery of new vehicles, install emergency equipment, and assign them to troopers and civilians.

Vehicle Maintenance operates 20 garages across the state to handle routine and emergency vehicle repairs. Automotive Services Specialist complete more than 12,000 service requests each year, from oil changes to major repair work. They follow state and federal safety standards and properly recycle or dispose of hazardous materials.

Vehicle Up-Fit installs emergency lighting, sirens, partitions and gun vaults. The team also assists with design of new fleet vehicles.  Staff test new equipment to improve safety for troopers and the public.  Troopers receive extensive training to operate vehicles safely in both emergency and non-emergency situations.

The Crash Review Board reviews all accidents involving department drivers and vehicles, determines causes, and uses the findings to guide training and help prevent future incidents.
