Submit a compliment
The Maryland State Police is dedicated to offering superior service and protection to all those who live in or visit the state. We greatly appreciate when our employees' performance earns your commendation. Your positive remarks will be shared with the employee and their supervisor, and will be included in the employee's personnel file.
All compliments regarding MDSP sworn and civilian employees must be in writing and may be submitted online, by telephone or in writing to the Internal Affairs Division. You can also send a formal letter to the MDSP Chief or relevant commanding officer detailing your positive experience.
File a complaint
The Internal Affairs Division (IAD) conducts timely, thorough, and unbiased investigations, providing transparent information to the Department, citizens, and travelers in Maryland. IAD operates under the Maryland State Police's Oath of Office and core values to ensure fair and just actions. The IAD is tasked with upholding the integrity of the MDSP and the trust of the citizens it serves. The IAD team is committed to ensuring the Department polices fairly and professionally without bias or prejudice.
How to submit a complaint
- To submit a formal complaint, use the IAD compliant form. All complaints regarding MDSP sworn and civilian employees may be submitted online, by telephone or in writing to the Internal Affairs Division.
- You can make a complaint in person or by telephone to any MSP employee, but a written statement will still be required for an official investigation. The main IAD phone number is 410-653-4350.
- Ensure your complaint is in writing.
- Submit your form by email to the Maryland State Police Internal Affairs Department.
- After you submit your complaint, you can check the status of your complaint
- Your submission is assigned to an IAD MDSP investigator who will review the complaint.
- The investigator may contact you for follow-up. MDSP commits to fair, unbiased, and prompt reviews.
Note:
- If you see or suspect immediate danger, or someone acting in a life-threatening way, call 911 or contact your local police rather than submitting a form.
- Making false accusations can have legal consequences. It's a serious offense to file a complaint under oath if the information isn’t accurate.
