The Maryland State Police Forensic Sciences Division (FSD) offers lab tours and off-site outreach presentations to help students and organizations learn about forensic science.
How to request a tour or presentation
Submit your request using the Laboratory Tour/Off-Site Outreach Request Form. Requests sent in other ways will not be accepted.
Your request must include:
- Your name and affiliated organization
- Number of attendees and purpose (e.g., 18 students in a forensic science class)
- Contact information including phone number, email, and address
- Type of event, Lab Tour or Off-site outreach
- Reason for the request and topics of interest
- Preferred and backup dates. Avoid Fridays if possible.
Tours generally take about two hours and are typically scheduled from 10 am to 12 pm. The first 30 to 60 minutes is spent in the classroom watching an informational presentation followed by a Q & A session.
Participants will then be taken on a guided tour of the facility. For security and safety purposes, tour participants will not be allowed into any laboratories, but will be able to view laboratories from the hallways.
Who can take a lab tour
- High school groups that are taking forensic science classes
- College or universities groups that are taking forensic science courses
- Elementary and middle school cannot tour the lab.
Visitors are expected to dress professionally in business casual attire or adhere to their school's dress code. Disruptive behavior may result in being asked to leave.
Off-site outreach
The Forensic Science Division offers presentations to schools and community groups. These presentations can be delivered:
- During work hours: Limited to high school and college students focusing on forensic science.
- On personal time: May include younger students, with content tailored to their age.
All outreach must be approved by a section manager and reported to the FSD Director.
