Contact Information
Frederick section, Trooper 3, began service on August 1, 1973, at the Frederick Barrack. It later moved to Frederick Municipal Airport, where it is still based today.
Trooper 3 serves Frederick, Washington, Carroll, and northern Montgomery counties. Crews also respond to calls in other parts of Maryland, as well as nearby areas in West Virginia and Pennsylvania. Because Camp David is in this region, the team has also supported missions related to presidential security.
The area includes mountains, rivers, and trails, which often require aerial rescues. With increased outdoor activity along the Potomac River and the Appalachian Trail, Trooper 3 frequently performs hoist rescues—more than any other section.
Trooper 3 works closely with local, state, and federal law enforcement, as well as emergency medical services. Due to the size of the region and longer distances to trauma centers, the section logs some of the highest flight hours in the Aviation Command each year.
